The 2 Big what ifs that are haunting me are-

I should of told the guy to starve him from wednesday

I should of taken control of the situation and caught him myself.

A fish of this size and price is pretty hard to come by.... 20" for $50!

In the future try this method.

Use a black trashbag. Submerge it on the opposite side of the tank and slowly guide the fish in there...soon as he swims in it close the bag....

he was not a healthy fish to begin with if he died that easily....

You can't say that. We all know how easily fish can roll over.

I think what caused this death was a combination of things and the fish just could not handle it.

I don't know the history of the fish but judging by his barbels, gills, fins, scales(before he lost them), colour and behaviour(no twitching,squirming,floating, sinking etc) he seemed healthy and in good condition.

leichardtis are sensitive to water qualities actually. And large fish must be starved, purged of stomach contents for a few days up to a week before moving to prevent them from throwing up during the transport process. It has happened to me before, and some times 2-3 days of undigested food can be very toxic once released back into the water. Imagine drowning in your own puke.
