Sorry to hear about this. Next time you can do large water changes with cooler water every few hours. This will add oxygen to the tank and reduce contaminants that the filter would otherwise remove. I hope you have a battery pump handy now for the future.
 
Your Flowerhorn knows that you cared for him till the very last moment. Move on and groom your small flowerhorn well.

By the way some tips,

1. do water change like what andrewtfw said.
2. Use a pail and scoop from the tank. Pour the water back in to create gushing bubbles. Will temporary increase the oxygen level. Thought not a lot and tiring and time wasting, at least this method will buy u some time. But remember the ammonia isnt changed to nitrite to nitrate during this period
 
Sorry for the loss. I had a back up pump hooked up to a 55 gal pleco tank for emergencies, only to realize one day that it wasn't going to do anything because it doesn't come with batteries pre-installed.
