even if someone hunts for the hunt, most cases they do something with the meat...I know here in michigan people "hunt for the hunt" and can donate their deer to the soup kitchens to feed those less fortunate. I dont think those people are seriel killers either, snapping animals legs or practicing taxidermy in their mothers basement.

I've never thought about that. That would be really cool.

Then aren't they hunting for food, just not to feed themselves?

I get the need to hunt nuisance animals but a blow gun? My full unadulterated response would get me banned. Use a high powered air rife with hollow points. Typically these animals would be controlled by predators, which we have removed, so either they starve or we control them.

Thats what I use, 1,000fps air rifle with hollowpoint pellets. If they live through that, 550fps CO2 pistol with zinc plated copper BB's. If we dont control them, they would overrun us all. Rabbits, starlings, crows and other pests are getting way out of hand. If we dont control them, who will?

I either bury them or throw them away. You can eat rabbits.

How are they out of hand? I don't think its that bad where i am, squirrels get in houses but i don't think its the density of them that matters. It only takes one.

I'm not saying they aren't out of hand, but looking back this issue gets my blood boiling. Nothing needed to be managed before we came and developed. And its never enough, developers and the fools willing to buy them have fueled the mcmansion market and pushed into rural areas crippling the predator/prey relationships. Here in suburbia the sprawl is not stopping. The people buying the houses are scared of the bears eating their birdseed, deer eating the gardens, and snakes in the basement. Saying these people are detached from reality would be an understatement.
Sorry for the rant! :)

I don't like killing them, and I believe every word of what you just said. If we didn't move into their habitats and kill off the predators we wouldn't have to do it. But since we did, we have to control them. It's not too bad here either, but we do have way too many starling around here. The only problem they really cause, is they crap EVERYWHERE. The groundhogs, woodchucks and muskrats dig and can cause structural damage to minibarns and erode stream and pond banks.
