In a controlled enviroment with a safe backstop . If you act like an idiot you will be one . If you execute a well planned idea with materials on hand you will be a moron? I apologize for posting. I'm gonna go get drunk and play with shotguns now-

just make a live trap, make a box big enough for a small dog and router two strips on the sides to make a sliding door, then drill a hole in the tope near at the oppostire of the door in the roof drill another hole in the door near the bottom, then get some wire and a nail the nail goes into the hole in the door to hold it up and the wire goes in the other hole where you attach the food

when the animal enters for the food in theory he will pull the wire pulling the nail or pin out of the hole and release the door down trapping the animal

then you take it to a nice woods where it will live happily ever after :D

also when I said dog I meant like a terrier enough to deter the raccoon
the the big dog was a joke

Getting the trap hopefully today.

They can not be transported (local laws) and can only be trapped by the owner of the property (me) during the months of September to February.

My sister had a squirrel issue at one time, non-native species, and she explained her process of removing them according to local laws...Without going into to much detail, I will get rid of the issue legally...I am also going to get an electrified border fence for around the pond to ensure no new raccoons are playing in my pool!

come on guys, shooting them on the property?! sounds like a bad news story or an episode of COPS!

VLDesign-My bad, they are mammals, not rodents, I always thought of them as big smart rats...:)

vladfloroff-Have you had experience with the U/S deterrents? This sounds cheaper and not as ugly as the fence.

The motion activated ones work great. The constant on ones don't, the animals tend to ignore it after an initial period. Most animals hate surprises but can get used to constant noise.

VLDesign is talking about taxonomic nomenclature. All rodents are mammals of the order rodentia. Raccoons are order carnivora, that's why they are not redents.

For any others with my problems...
The US device might be an issue due to the vegetation around the pond, same with the auto sprayers, plus they are downright expensive! I am thinking coyote urine as a follow up deterrent around the pond, with maybe the bigger spray type application to the fenceline of the backyard to keep them from traveling through to get to the front of the house.

Thanks for the smart responses!

try fly bait and and coke you should be able to get fly bait from most hardware or farm store and mix a lil bit of both in the cans and put around yard coons like the sweet taste of the coke and drink it up like crazy and they'll make it about 10 ft. if that from the can. I know this because we use it around my and grandma's house and have took out a few dozen with it

What about cats and dogs? And squirrels? Gotta have something for the old little dog to chase out ogf the yard! lol

I am driving up to get my trap tonight, I'll catch and release anything that I don't want. It's a bit safer that way, I'd hate to accidentally kill one of my kids cats...

like someone said earlier.. raccoons are extremely smart... good luck with your pond.

if they anything like around here ours are at least 40 lbs all day long... as long as they know there is food with no threat they will keep coming(they rule the local dumpsters....)

VL who made the everyone a moron comment come say that to my face ya quaa... i love ya nerds on the computers who talk smack.. kid asked for idea... which you gave none???? you just enlightened us with your rodent comment... kick rocks sucka
