After thinking this over and over inside my head, I decided to let go of all my fish in my 250 gallon thank. It is mildly planted with a few amazon swords, anubias and java ferns. 20 individual plants all in all, very robust. I have a pretty large giant gourami, tinfoil barbs, Oscars, a silver arowana, a clown knife, pbass, GT and a super red severum in this tank. Tomorrow, I will be sending all of them to the LFS. I will convert my tank into a fully planted tank with a lot of other display fishes. My selection includes angelfish, neon tetras, cories, guppies, pearl gouramis and even swordtails. Is my selection good enough? How many of each would you put in this tank? Any more suggestions? I have 11 tiger barbs that I want to put there but I was warned they will nip on the angels. Will they do this in a 250 gallon? Filtration is about 1,500GPH. Pothos also reside on the trickle filter located on top of the tank. Tank dimensions is 84"Lx32"Wx32"H (24" water depth). Suggestions are all welcome. Thanks in advance!

Any pics? I have thought of doing this with one of my tanks...just on a smaller scale(90g)

You could try getting a school of biotodoma cupido or red head geos

Hello; Many years ago I set up a 125 with smaller fish. I was learning to raise fry and had induced a group of zebra danioes to breed in a setup that allowed a large number of eggs to survive. I wound up with hundreds of fry that were put into the 125 to grow out. By the time they grew out to around one inch I had kept a large number remaining, well over one hundred. It was a quite a sight and well worth the effort.

I too like a deep substrate in a planted tank and have had good results this way. I had the 125 planted fairly heavy.
Good luck

Bring on the pitchforks and the torches! Here is my poor attempt at planted as of today.

I have left the giant gourami and the silver arowana in the tank. The silver arowana will stay as it had been established a feeder-non-eater for 6 months so it is safe for the other residents. The giant gourami is also fish-safe but still on trial. He does not eat plants and was tried plant-safe for 7 weeks. Only problem is he is huge. He disturbs the plants by swimming alone. I made a huge mistake by adding guppies and swordtails yesterday! Well, it would take months for them to fill a 250 gallon, I think! Still looking for more schooling fish as 100+ less than inchers make the tank look empty. I have added 50 neon tetras, 20 tiger barbs, 10 angelfish, 1 red tail black shark, 2 blue botias, 4 pearl/blue gouramis, 6 cories, 12 pink tetras I-cannot-remember-the-names-which and 20 other yellow-orange characins that I cannot also remember the names which. I have yet to add the cabombas and the anacharis. I will be adding more substrate this weekend and more rocks. Driftwood is questionable as I have no car in China to move one across the city.

I will add clown loaches after I return from my 32 day vacation by March. How many is good enough with 6 being minimum?

I am open to suggestions.
