Rain Simulater?

Has anyone ever tried to make something that mimicks a rainstorm for the fish? I think some Killifish guy mentioned it one another forum, I think because some Killis require a rainstorm for breeding or something? I don't know, I'm not a Killifish guru, I'm just suspecting.

SO has anyone ever tried to mimick a rainstorm in their aquarium without lugging around a watering pale?

Well try this for a 10 Minutes.....Pour water in the tank and flash the lights on and off. Not the tank lights....

Well I guess that would work, but it's not really something I could sit back and enjoy as well. I saw some thing at the grocery store that was obviously on a timer, and as a warning it had a couple thunder claps, and the sound of rain, and then little mist jets spray water on the produce. I should ask how it's done out of curiousity. I don't really wanna simulate a rainstorm as I have no need to, but it would definately be neat.

easy peasy. just get a ****load of spray bars or make a spray plate and spray it on with a 5000lph pump.lol. and have the water level at 1/8 and have a barrier of substrate seperating male and female. and let it fill up to 6/8 and gradually turn down the pump leading to 6/8 and at6/8 have a full flow fx5 outake thing only no current produce so as to mimick water draiing from higer levels.

i know you said you don't realy want to do it but if you did you could always try somthing like this, it really simple and whenever you want to see the rainstorm just turn on the pump.

i was going to try somthing similar to this but with my palludarium i am going to set up.

Yeah, I think this would be perfect. I also saw this done in Palludariums and it looks awesome, I think, and the animals seem to respond to it. There was a huge thunderstorm last night, and my fish all acted much differently. They got along better, and now I have two diffenate pairs, where I had none before.. so I want to see if I could do that "on command".

Unfortunitly I think there is more to work in a natural thunderstorm that you just cant recreate inside. Ions and such, but you could make one using drip plates, fogger for your fog, mp3 for thunder, and a PLC to time the intervuls.

When I breed cardinal tetras I collect real rainwater and to trigger a spawn I mix a handful of rich earthy mud into the water collection tank and keep it in suspension with a powerhead. I slow drip feed overnight into the spawning tank allowing it to displace water down the overflow. Fish will start spawning at sunrise.

To simulate a rainy season you could use a spraybar but I would research the fish since not all fish are alike.

For hoplosternum and corydoras catfish I just throw in some ice. Aim for a 3-4 degree Celcius shift.

there thunder too, so you gotta make the tank shake too to simulate the real effect of a thunderstorm
