i still think that there would be a lot of pollutants, they get vaporized in big cities, float up into clouds, clouds float for long distances until conditions are right, then let it rip, so they could potentially still contain large amounts of pollutants.

If you're planning on staying there for a while, why don't you invest in some guttering (collects water from the roof) and a water tank (holds the water). This way you won't have to worry about getting anything in the water while you're collecting it, and you'll also get a much larger volume of water.

If you wanted to get really organised system, you could run a trickle system straight from a tank collecting water from the roof, but above the height of your tanks ... it wouldn't even need power!
