Rainbow Hi Fin wolf going dark?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
When i got my red wolf, it was a very dark color (like the one in your pic.) It got it from stress and because it was getting used to the surroundings. After a month or so when I got it to eat, his colors lighten up and turned from a dark purple color to a creamy beige and gold color.

hmm when I first got him he never did this and was that nice creamy color for a couple months I moved the tank last week 4 days before he started this, could it be because I moved the tank across my room?

Any better pics of your wolf? It actually looks like a purple wolf (ery ery peru) from that pic angle. In that case, they does have the dark purple color.

I got a new phone recently (because I dropped my old one into lake erie lol) and lost all my pictures. Im at work till around 12 but I will try and get some better pics of it up later! that is interesting, my cousin thought he had a peru but then he found out the dude was breeding them and had crossed peru and normal ery erys, I think he was on this forum but got banned for posting stupid things. kids prone to telling stories that shouldn't be told haha. (I think he was dr.gonzo lol)

I know it is uncommon to have someone breeding the reds but that's what the supplier (we go to this one LFS that usually has the kind of fish we like and good food for them) told us when we caught him the one day dropping off fish. Would LOVE to find out for sure, sounds kind of far fetched but I've never tried to breed wolf fish. heard it was very hard, especially w/ reds. who knows though some people just have good luck

thanks for all the input people, I'm much less worried about this now w/ the other exp owners chiming in

I would love to see a documented captive spawn of these guys. I have done a lot of searching and have not seen any pics or reports . I would like to l know what conditions they were spawned in as I am pretty positive that I have both males and females in my group. If you could get more info on this and pass it along that would be great.

I'm tryin! Gotta catch the supplier when he gets there usually on Thursdays. I could have been spun a yarn from him but when I talked to him I did ask for pics and more info on the spawning and he said he would get it for me so this should be interesting if true! He said the guy breeds Malabracius too, and some other SA preds he couldn't recall.. would love to be introduced to this dude and find out if the supplier is telling the truth

Looks like I gotta wait a lil longer for some good pics, the red hides from my phone ever since I forgot to shut off the flash a week or 2 after I got him :(

didn't manage to catch the supplier today! I did get his number though so I'm going to be looking into the supposed hi fin breeding. here is a better pic of my rainbow hi fin, finally got a decent one that wasn't blurry, he doesn't look like any other rainbow/red hi fin I've seen... even the other ones they had looked different, that's why I picked this guy
