Rainbow Shiner Spawn - Notropsis chrosomus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had recently moved them in from the outside tub, so that might have influenced the behavior. I think you are correct, b/c they haven't spawned since. I've recently been increasing the duration of lighting to represent spring coming. I haven't messed with the temp, but it's probably a good idea. Temp is currently 73.

Update 2-15-21.

After not having success with messing with the temperatures, I decided to turn off the heater and let things go. It got a bit chilly, but the fish seemed to do fine. They never went into breeding colors— until today.

Temp currently reads 72. Was in the 60’s over the last month.

Today, the males started to noticeably change color. The awesome spawning red. Hopefully, this will turn into something.

The little buggers bred in Java moss!!! Then they proceeded to eat the eggs!

I tried to intervene. Pulled out the Java moss and put into another tank in case some eggs are in there. Siphoned up some eggs that didn’t get snarfed and put them in a tumbler. Hope we get some fry!!!
