So, I'm new to MFK and Snakeheads, I've been lurking for a while. Today I got my first Snakehead, I have a rainbow snakehead, and at the same time we got a Peacock Bass. I'm kind of worried though because I know the bass will grow much faster than the snakehead. Today they were already fighting, I sense doom in my fishkeeping future.

Should I keep them together or seperate them in the near future? They're both eating guppies right now, about 2 a day. That or blood worms, I've seen a few things suggested in another thread but I've never heard of any of them, nor do I know where to get them, but I'm sure I can check at the pet shop I bought my fish at?

Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I'm a super noob. I'll get pictures of them both tomorrow and post them asap!

ok first.. the bass will eat ur snakehead real soon so i suggest returning one fish..... i say keep the snakehead..!!!
do it now while u are not too attached!

welcome to mfk and for sure the bass will gulp that rainbow snake very fast

I would get another tank go for the gusto let mts set in run with it

I have 2 dwarf rainbow and 1 dwarf gaucho they are very cool fish

Any suggestions on what to keep in my aquarium with my snakehead? Right now the bass is smaller than the snakehead, he's only about an inch and a half long, whereas the snakehead is about 3 inches long. How long do you think I have until he's big enough to gulp up my snakehead baby?

NOT Long... bass GROW VERY FAST! so... return the bass.... or the snakehead. whichever you choose..
u could keep other snakehead

We'll probably return the bass and get another rainbow then. They're only in a 20gal right now, and we seen a peacock bass in the store thats only two months old and is like a foot long already! At the moment I don't have another tank to switch him off to. I have a 90gal but its full of silver dollars that I know the bass will eat!

Thanks for your help everyone. I'll get back to you tomorrow, I knew buying them together would be a stretch, but I didn't think they'd be fighting already!

Hi,choose one, they cant be kept together!

Agree! Besides aggressionissues they have different temp req.
The p bass is tropical and the rainbow is subtropical so one or the other will have to suffer.

rainbow can stand high temp., I kept it in HK summer of abt 32 C... it grew well before it jumped out of the tank... (poor guy)
the major concern is that rainbow snake head is a slow grower when compared to peacock bass; when it comes to temperement, rainbow snakehead is a gentleman when compared to peacock bass...
and when the peacock bass outgrows the snakehead, the snakehead is likely to be a snack of the peacock bass.

I didn't know they had temperature differences! The guy at the pet shop didn't tell me that!

Well, I lost one of my fish anyway. The Snakehead jumped out of the tank in the middle of the night, and our kitten ate him. :( RIP Xerxes. We're going buy another peacock bass to live with Leonidas. What else can live with a peacock bass? They don't have much of a selection at the shop we bought him at, but for future referene, can I keep him with an arowana?
