As far as the eco system, I'd guess it probably does mess with it somewhat as introducing any other fish would.
States stocking some non-native fish here has had consequences for the ecosystem also. What consequences I don't know, I wasn't even aware they stocked rainbow trout over there.
They stocked rainbow trout here as a game fish because a lot of people like to fish for trout, there's even a breeding population in one of the rivers near here, but they're not native to this state.
