i bought a mated pair of rainbow cichlids and i put them in my 29 gallon tank and they started breeding right away and i only had one other kind of cichlid. then i setup a new 55 gallon tank and its been up for 2 months and they seem like they have no intrest in each other. is this because there are 6 more cichlids in the tank now.

it could be... how'd you like it if you were trying to mate and there were people watching??

My wife had a pair of convicts in a 55 for ages with a bunch of other fish and they would spawn all the time, but when we moved and they went into the 125, they went a good 4 or 5 months before doing so again.

It definitely could be that moving them into the 55 has caused them to hold off on spawning for a little while. You could try doing a few big water changes and see what happens. If nothing happens after that, then you might look at removing the tankmates and going from there.

well i got home today and the rainbows seems more active and i think they might be getting ready to get it on. once i see them start shaking around i am going to move them over to my 29 gallon tank
