Seems there has been alot of small aro fatalities lately. Many are lost from novice fish keepers but alot have been lost by experienced as well.

If you have raised an arowana from smaller then 6" please post special conditions you made. Post starting size, date aquired, and current size.

If you were unfortunate to loose a small aro, please post cause of death, and the aros size when aquired, how long you kept it and size at death.

Figure that maybe we can gather siome info here to increase odds of survival.

Fortunately I was able to raise two silver aros. I got both in Feb of 2006 at 3-3.5" by june they measured 7.5 and 8.5 inches. They would not live together without fighting so I got rid of the larger one and the smaller I kept is know 24".

Only real provisions I made were to slowly acclimate to match temp and pH. They were raised on a diet of freeze dried blood worms, flake food and started on freeze dried krill at 5", by 6-7" they were being fed a wide variety of different foods. No liver feeders until 11-12" mark.

my first attempt i failed with a 5" silver
but at my second attempt the jat i bought at 5"ish is now at 10"+ and doing great
no special care or anything done
the only difference was i did not keep the oscars and the aro together like i did with my silver and the main diet for my aro when he was 5" was live earthworms and fed him twice a day

I've never had any luck so far... Im gonna be giving it a try soon...

The 1st one i lost was a Jar.. It jumped out..
The 2nd one i lost was a Silver.. It got ripped apart by my gars..

I never really had an Arowana as in it wasn't mine. I helped raised my dad's when I was about 5-6. It was about 3 inches if I can remember correctly. By "success" what do you mean? Total length?

Seems many die before reaching the 6" mark, but I guess sucess would be to at least 12" and beyond.

ive lost 2 aros
1. a 8" silver that was killed by an 4" oscar:(
2. 8" black that went from goergeous to dead with no fins in 3 days(unknown illness) only owned him a week

first silver i grew to 18" and sold(tank too small for him, what can i say it was my first monster and i wasnt prepared)
current silver is 18" and doing great.

currently raising a 4" jardini, just pulled off an anchor worm i noticed, but a very energetic and fiesty jar.

I'm raising a little jar right now. I got it around 20 days ago.
When I got it, it was around 2", now it's around 3.5".
It seems to be doing great, on a steady diet of FD Daphnia, Hikari pellets, and frozen bloodworms.

I bought my jar at 2 inches around june and i raised it until it was 8 inches at around december and then i decided to sell it and i miss my jar.The jar was my first ever aro and it went pretty well had a pleco that was a tankmate fed him freeze dried shrimps flakes and pellets and i always did water changes every week
