Seems there has been alot of small aro fatalities lately. Many are lost from novice fish keepers but alot have been lost by experienced as well.
If you have raised an arowana from smaller then 6" please post special conditions you made. Post starting size, date aquired, and current size.
If you were unfortunate to loose a small aro, please post cause of death, and the aros size when aquired, how long you kept it and size at death.
Figure that maybe we can gather siome info here to increase odds of survival.
We bought our silver around 4 inches sometime in mid-late august I think (He was 5 inches as of Sept 7th, I do know that because I have pics with date as documentation). Currently he is 14+ inches long.
We did not make any special conditions for him per se.
He was placed in a bare 55 gallon aquarium by himself, one penguin 350 and a bubble wand. 15-20% water changes every couple of days. We started out feeding him krill, as it was the only prepared food he would eat. By 5 inches long he started eating hikari food sticks, which is still the only pellet food he will eat. His growth really seemed to accelerate after this, however his seemed in good health previously also.
Around 8-9 inches long he started becoming jumpy, which we presumed was from lack of tank space, and this is when he was moved into a larger enclosure.
By november 7th, not long after he was moved into a 125g, he was around 10 inches long, I have a photograph and date to document this also.
Sometime between then and now he started accepting other foods such cocktail shrimp, worms, tubifex, and beef heart (supposed to be for the clown knife, but he steals it). Cocktail shrimp is by far his favorite.
He is still in very good health. The only problem, which as far as I know isn't health related, is that he has dropeye on one side

. This developed recently, within the last month or so, though it may have been slightly present beforehand but simply not noticable. Water quality has been great the whole time we've had him, and his main diet is pellets which are fairly balanced, so not sure what the cause of this would be other than genetics.
Anyway, that's more info than was asked for, but that's pretty much what we've documented up until now
