Hello, I'm new here & have a Breeding PBP Convicts.Yes I have seen a thread or 2 on syn/amph spawns and that mutation being common thing. Well I guess that wraps up our convo... they are just a short body mutation that was inbred repeatedly. And their genetics are alot weaker than regular convicts.

The Parents look like PBP Convicts but many Fry are Blond.
Striped Fry vary in darkness, pattern & size.

I bred Convicts early 80s. The whole species seemed Short Bodied to me. So when I brought these @ PetSmart I thought they were just Convicts.
After Googling I dug up the receipt and they were sold as
"Polar Blue Parrot Tiger Cichlids"
A few more years & they will have longer names than all these hyphenated surnames.

I need some Convict experts to look @ my Parents & evaluate them.
I've been out of the hobby & haven't kept cichlids for about 30 years.
I know the species has been separated into 4.
That they have been crossed & inbred so much it is a mess.
My research led me to this thread.

Now that I've got my 1st 5 posts out of the way on a thread noone reads I'll start a new thread & perhaps contact you direct.

As per early Fry mortality...
The 1st batch was in a 9 gallon bowl with white sand.
Virtually no mortality was observed to Fry with Parents.
Parents were moved to 25 gallon algae infested tank in direct sunlight.
40-50 Blond & Striped 100+ day old Fry now in 20L grow out tank.
The 2nd batch is currently in a 25 gallon shallow reef tank with black sand.
When Fry 1st emerged & swarmed on Black Sand I estimated 60-70.
A few days later as they swarmed mid level I estimated 90-100.
A day later I estimated only 30-40.
A day later I estimated 50-60.
Why?
