Rameshorn snail with white build up on shell. normal?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It looks like the shell is eroding. What's your water hardness and Ph? Try feeding them some calcium rich foods or you can give them tums to chew on. You could also give them a cuddle bone to chew on. They need calcium in their diet to promote healthy shell growth.

that is due to your water hardness not ingested calcium. Likely your water is not hard enough for them to sustain their established shell.

My bad. I thought if they were fed more calcium they could live in a softer water?
My water is super hard so I've never had a problem.

I bought some from an ebay seller. The seller admit pH is 6.8 or lower and feed the snail calcium pills. There are no noticeable corrosion from a distance, just white build up.

the white build up is etching, the start of erosion. Water should be at least moderately hard for the shells to stay intact. That being said, its a common ramshorn and they reproduce readily enough that most people don't bother making theri parameters match their needs.

few of my RED ramshorn is turning black or very dark brown. Is this cause by diet or something is not right in my tank?

I'm actually curious about Ramshorns turning black or partially black as well... what does it mean???

are you suer its the same snails turning black? Not new snails that just have a different color? images would help
