Almost all rattle snakes are state or fedrally protected, and therefor illegal to kill. Instead of going around and killing threatened snake species, why dont you just eliminate their habitat near you house. Mow any long grass, and remove any junk piles. Snakes are not "out to get you" as many people think, they only strike when they feel threatened. Through proper management of you property it is possible to live in saftey with the snakes. Contact your state Department of Natural Resources or equivalent agency for more advice.

So I was standing there in my chicken coop this morning, in my cowboy boots and underwear and out of no where a rattlesnake grabs my boot and starts bitin my ass, I grab the nearest thing, a rediculously huge sign and whack the snake. That's it. Now, if the same thing happened to you that quick, are you saying you'd just stand there and let a rattlesnake nail you?

I could care less about them but I dont hate them if they were to attack my cat i would take to them my BB Gun lol

In all honesty, yes I would. I may move out of the way and then relocate the shake but I would not kill it. I realize that if the snake tried to bite me it would be my fault, even if the only reason is because I did not see it.

Either you haven't seen first hand, what happens when a human is bit by a rattler, or you are just "tree huggin" a bit too much.
Meiling didn't go looking to slaughter an endangered species, She defended herself against an intruder, that encroached her personal space.
Of course she has made provisions for the wildlife.
She is probably the most "concerned with wildlife" person I know.
I also know for fact that she has been in contact the state wildlife office, finding out what precations to take and suggestions on rattler control. That's why they have the guinea hens. They are the ones who suggested the 12ga.
Hell she single handedly capture and placed over 200 stray and abandoned cats last summer.
So don't trip on what was done out of self preservation, by a sweetheart lady, shes not a threat to the Rattlesnake population.

Beware though, if you are up in the pacific northwest woods and see a gorgous lady clad in her panties and cowboyboots tending her chickens, stay the hell out of her space...she's 12ga.'n it...

Thanks for the support zennzzo. See the truth is, I live in thousands of acres of wildnerness, this place is just as remote as it was 100 years ago, it's also high in the mountains infested with hundreds of snakes. Unfortunately, they are open season here. They have plenty of wilderness, their habitat is not endangered. They choose where to go, my leg just isn't appropriate. It happened, stuff happens. I wasn't trying to offend anyone, it's a way of life here, you can't let your guard down for a minute. Come one out and conserve all you want, that would be cool. Unfortunaly, people here are not of the urbanized virtual reality living mindset, it's do or die, and this land is tough. The animals survive, I've had a coyote on my porch after my cats, I called the wildlife dept, they told me to get a hunting license and shoot it. I asked them to relocate it, they said they don't and wont do coyote, there's so many they are considered a nusiance. I keep my pets in at all times, but the wildlife is something else.

Welcome Ling,
Not a problem stating the facts...
If anybody is willing to die for acts of idiocy, I say let them do it.
Just goes to show there ain't no lifeguard at the gene pool.
Somebody has to clean the pool.

Sensitive subject, this I know all too well. It is not easy living where no one looks into conservation much for the snakes, but with all due respect to the Trust, lets let the squirrel chasers have their thread back, it was just getting good, I was learning something new!!! So how to rope a squirrel you say?ha har!

HMM
I guesss that being on the east coast the first thing i would think of regarding raccons is that they carry rabies, this sounds more like a behavioral adaptation, since they travel in a pack but still...
"hating" any animal to me doesn't make sense, it's not as if they have the same social values or lack of them that we do, their goal is to survive and reproduce.
By the same token, i would kill an animal that came into my space and was attacking me and dangerous and not feel any guilt. also put down a vicious dog.
but i like presas and pits , they are naturally inclined to attack but can be softened or made worse depending on the environment
the other extreme of idolizing nature or animals to the point of sacrificing or risking human lives also does not make sense to me.
That's why i don't have a lynx, (and before anyone starts the supplier of these gets them from a furrier so they are captive bred and would be pelted otherwise)
ok that and my state absolutely positively will not give out a permit (i asked) and the fact that it would have to be declawed according to the breeder (not cool especially in a large cat-- arthritis)

It sounds like some freaky seventies movie though
the prophecy or something where this mutated bear ate all these people?

i wish there were easy answers to everything...
seems like there were when i was 15....
