My loach tank is horribly sick. I noticed they weren't behaving correctly yesterday. A few have some spots of ich. Another has small mold-like white blotches on part of its body. They're all producing large amounts of slime. They flick around and rub their sides on the floor and ornaments. My sucker fish turned up dead this morning. Most of its body appears to either be missing skin or is covered in a strange red sore-like coat. When I netted it, the red areas rubbed off a little on the net, turning it red as well. The temp in the tank has stayed a balmy 85F and I've started feeding anti-bacterial food. All params are normal. Any ideas?

I'm guessing my dead plec has hemorrhagic septicemia. I"ll be dosing my tank with E.M. Erythromycin and Super Ick Cure shortly. I'll also put in 2 tbsp of salt per 10 gallons. I hope as many as possible pull through. My favorite loach is about to kick the bucket. It's belly side out against the glass, covered in mucus and little white blotches. The white blotches do not look like ick, but the rest of the loaches definitely have ick. I'm moving the one healthy fish, my $30 tiger knife, out of the tank to the QT and I'm going to treat the rest of the fish in place.

Really sorry to hear about your loss!

Has put me in a state of panic as ICH seems to have broken out in my tank and have some very similar syptoms to yours.

Erythromycin treats gram-positive bacteria. Hemorrhage septicemia is gram-negative motile bacteria. You used the wrong treatment IMO. The reason why your pleco got septicemia is because ich managed to let the Aeromonas hydrophila bacteria to penetrate its blood vessels. Your best bet would have been either acriflavine or kanamycin.

I am sorry to hear your heavy losses. I wish I could have replied earlier but I have not been giving my efforts lately to cope with the amount of activities piling up on me.:(

It's alright, I was a little tired of caring for that tank, but I don't like ending a tank this way. There were 6 yoyos in that tank, as well as a 6" tiger knife.
