My pair of German Blue Rams lay their eggs, but after like 1 day they both eat all the eggs...HELP...what did i do wrong the temp. is at like 80 and ph is like around 6 lot of cave and some plants in my 75g. Does anyone know what went wrong?
Blue rams have a pretty bad rap as parents. They don't always take the best care of the eggs. I've bred wild rams and they seem to do fine. Sometimes it takes a few tries for them to get it right, but this is the case with a lot of young cichlid parents. I had a pair of koi angels that a breeder swore to me would never parent-raise. He let them try twice and they didn't get it right, so he started pulling the eggs and raising them artificially. I left the pair alone and after 12 tries (LOL) they stopped eating the eggs and started raising fry on their own. So sometimes patience is key. I'm sure there are exceptions where it never works, though. I know people with cichlids that are habitual egg eaters.
Your temperature seems a little low for GBR. Usually people keep them at 84 - 85F.
