All same species, Microgeophagus ramirezi. They cannot crossbreed with their cousin, M. altispinosa.

this is jus tmy opinion but I dont believe people should make hybrids it makes the fish impure. many species have gone extinct in the wild but are kept alive by the fish hobby species should be kept as they are.

im still curious to see what the cross would look like post pics if it works

You will not get hybrids as they are the same species. You'll just get variations of color in the fry. Depending on which color type is dominant, you may get 100% blues or 100% golds that carry recessive genes for the other type. This is seen all the time in things like angelfish.

Though there was some box equation thing that would tell you the outcome of the fry, granted I don't know what is recesive in either of these fish. I would hazard a guess that blue is recessive in the golds. I'm on my phone atm but I will look it up when I get home and post the thing I'm talking about.

something similar to this

G b
B GB Bb
b Gb bb

with the information that is most apparent for the color morphs, without knowing exact dominant and recessive traits, G = dominant gold. B = dominant blue. b = recessive blue. with this, you would get 50/50 mix (if my high school bio is remembered correctly) BUT we don't know what the recessive trait of the golds are, they could be blue or gold or white or purple for all we know. it also works for angels with color morphs and fin traits (veil or standard)

The Punnett square? Interestingly, there's an angelfish forum that specializes in angelfish genetics. They run down the recessive and dominant traits. Impressive.

It's where Ken Kennedy must have learned his angelfish's traits and breed unbelievably amazing strains known as Pinoy angels. It's been three years since I went there and ran into him.lol
