I have always kept viejas, and the Bifa to me is pry the meanest of them all. Regani seems to be the least aggressive along with the heterospilum. The melanarus is also not too agrgressive but will hold its own. Hope this helps.

Glenbo, I think the only fish on that list that can be as mean as a BIFA would be the flowerhorn. Male carpintis can also get nasty, but I think a 14 inch male Bifa can take him. Remember viejas get into the 12-16 inch range so if the vieja is the first fish introduced to the tank and it establishes the whole tank as its territory then you will have major problems.

I have never had experience with a Bifa, But I can say Vieja's are beyond aggressive. They dont just establish territory, They actually hunt other fish and chase them and bit off parts of their tails. They are fine with fish that can kicks its ass, but if they can push a fish around they will probably attack it until it dies.
Ive owned Devils, Carpintis, FH's, and the only thing I can compare a bad attitude vieja to is African cichlid aggression. They arn't glass bangers like FH, its different type of aggression. My Fenestratus and Hartwegi were like this. Now im growing out a blackbelt.
I give respect to the guys around here who have established communities of vieja. Like Locel with his monster black belt and other viejas, some breeding, in a 300gal I believe.

Not sure mate, its being built for me by a shop for about £2000 with a 5ft sump, stand, lights etc, i just got to make a hole in the wall
All my stock is tiddlers at the mo, growing out, I'm hoping the Bifa does toughen up soon tho cos hes getting bullied a lot, very pretty fish tho!!
Kinda looks like a Syns but really sparkly.
