A wild caught long ear sunfish. I am surprised he hasn't been swallowed by the LMB. It already took out my red empress and a blue gill that was larger than this sunfish.
Not to be contrary, but that looks more like a redbreast sunfish Lepomis auritus, rather than a longear sunfish Lepomis megalotis. Oddly enough the "ear" flap on the redbreast is longer than that on the longear.
Without breaking out the tape measure, it is 6'L x 2.5'h x 2'w.
I'm not quite sure about the species but I was told one of my smaller softshells that is nearly identical was a Florida Spiny Softshell.
