red flint fine grain sand. not their finest but second finest.. 50lbs is like 20$ at the LFS around here... the eels are M Dayii's the one on the right is 18" and the one on the left is about 10" I have some better pictures of them in the eels subforum.

nice cuban and floridas:D

big one is about 18-20 inches now and the small one is aout 12 now. they both have been eating like horses the past month and packed on the weight and a few inches. tbh hope they dont keep growing like this or they will end up the monsters in the tank not the gar.

nice gars. can't wait for my cuban to get big enough for the main display.

how do you manage eels with your gars? any time i try it doesn't end well.

i originally kept fire eels with my gar, and they where in the tank first. the 2 guys i have now are fairly aggressive eaters and have been bitten once or twice. ive actually seen my cuban make a grab for the same worm my eel did and end up biteing the eel, who turned around and bit back. and everyone is fed very well. at one point i was concerned about the smaller eel but he holds his own and otherwise hides under the DW if things get to crazy. imo the key is keeping the gar fed and giving the eels hide spots that are more hassle then worth poking around in. but my gar have always had spineys as tankmates.
