Rank Aggressive Amphilophus Species ?

Most amphilophus species are very closely related, any difference in aggression would probably come down to a fish individual personality more than anything. Trimacs having a different jaw and teeth structure could potentially cause more damage then other amphilophus species.
Agree with this ?
Trying to predict aggression is nearly impossible, especially when they are closely related. CA cichlids in general are hard to predict behavior. Everyone will have a different experience w/ them, and there are too many other environmental variables to consider that might affect behavior. Most haven’t even owned all amphs to really compare. IMO threads like these are pointless because of that.
The Large Petsmart devil and one of the true midas have found each other but nothing serious yet... probably because they dont like whats available to breed on, just the mopani wood in the tank. Im sure if i did a clay pot there would be babies.
Even with the breeding behavior this big guy was pretty easy. Not too much a jerk to the others
Well that's good. Totally unlike my convicts I had where the moment they paired up it was just hell in the tank. Lol when I first got em I seriously thought that these lil 1-4in fish would never pick on something upto 14in but boy was I wrong.
Tell me about it. My 2” pair just had their 4th batch of free swimmers and they’re letting my 12” buttikoferi know that she’s not welcome on “ their” side of the tank? On the bright side, she has no nipped fins so I’m not too worried
Yeah I still say pound per pound convicts can be one of the most aggressive Cichlids out there. The only fish they didn't seem to bother was the pleco but then again he's so armoured that I don't think it would faze him any.
I've kept a few of the amphilophus species and in my opinion, the top dog (err fish) in aggression is A. trimaculatus closely followed by A. istlanus. The least aggressive by far is A. lyonsi. My A. citrinellus and A. Zaliosum were fairly tame in a community tank but the trimac and istlanus were pretty much evil for no reason. That's my $0.02.
