when i worked in pet retail, it was funny when you ask a customer so how big is your tank, and a lot of times the answer wasn't in gallons, it was a hand gesture of how big the tank is.

 Same here! I was just getting ready to post that!!

What ticks me off is I'm trying to find out about a "225" on my local cl, I responded to the listing immediately, and the jerk won't respond to me.....

tank size from manufactures are not on hold much water they hold, its how much they displace as far as a i know,., anyone else hear this? example 150 -138 so on

I get a kick out of craigslist, like when people try to sell 29g tanks for $400 since they have already put in over $700 (:bs:)

most of those tanks are most likely bought in petco and petsmart. after spending 200 on a 20g combo set, then another 3-4lbs of broght pink gravel per gallon as the book claims, then petco's $20 a piece crappy little divers nd shark head deco.

lets not mention the 5 orandas, 13 neon tetras, 3 tadpoles, 6 oscars and a pleco they tried to squeeze into that brand new 20g the first day. that was after being told they cant keep "nemo fish" in a bowl ;)

i can almost see how they spent $700 for those crappy 20-55g tanks.:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

oh wait, i did too once upon a time :X

I have had that happen before, thats why after they give the gallonage online, I ask for the dimensions, as I have had thier estimate off by over 70 gallons before.

I always ask them to measure in inches before Ill go look

Yup, that's when I realize they don't know what they have. Just the other day a guy had a "250" listed. I called and asked for the dimensions. After waiting on the phone for about 5 minutes while the dingbat searches for his tape measurer, he then tell me the tank is about 5'x14"x22". Excuse me, 250 gallons???????????? I dont think so, [click]!!!

Another question to ask: (if the tank is glass) How long has it been without water?

Always check the seal.

Good luck

I spent close to two months looking and finally gave up. People either are too lazy to post accurate dimensions or they're greedy and perceived that their tank setup is a pot of gold. Plus, they do not describe their tanks accurately. If I'm going to pay for something used I expect to save 50% off the original price or else it's not worth my time looking. I ended up going to the store and bought a brand new acrylic tank setup.

By the way, you'll get disappointed driving over 2hrs dealing with people that offer little to no customer service at ATA. Don't go to ATA if you're more than 2hrs from them.
