Raphael catfish, predator?

the bigger the raphaels are the more clumsy they get- so therefore faster fish would be more likely to be safer than a slower finned fish-


just get smaller fish as "dither" fish that you won't be so upset about if they end up missing as thats what I'm doing right now with minnows and the raphaels.

I was told that one of my 11'' male was at least 10 years old when I got it in. So it does make sense if that math was right but I have a 6.5'' female that shot from 3'' in less a year and half?
 
more questions, how often do you feed yours?is it necessary to provide hiding space in the tank?I use black sand in my tank, and its in a room where the light is dim.
