I would have to disagree with that comment. I have 24 striped and 2 spotted in a 4x2x2. They do hide quite a bit at first, but after a few months, maybe 6 at most, they will be out quite often. I have enough hiding spots in the tank were I would not be able to see any of them, but there are always a few of them out.
I find they really started to come out during the morning if i fed them NLS. Mine also like meal worms, krill and beef heart.
I also feed them at night time with the lights off, and they go crazy for crushed up Sera Catfish Chips.

I see them more than my bumblebee catfish.

So you have 24 of them and sometimes see a few. Like I said, they hide a lot and come out mostly to feed.

At night I see them all. During the day, I do see about 4-6 at most times. But just like my clown loaches, you dont always see those guys out either. When you get them to a point where they will cruise the tank, it does look good.

Skittle, how many are you getting? The tank sounds big enough at the moment.

I would like to get maybe a pair or trio and i agree with you they dont seem boring, i have a pleco who hides most of the time but i still like him andthat just makes the times he comes out more fun

Actually im readin alot that they show aggresion towards their own species and since the tanks not huge anyway how bout one? They can be housed singly right?

Lol knowing bumblebees thats really not saying much.
I have three (2 spot 1 stripe) and have never had any aggression issues. So long as they dont have to share a single hiding spot you should be fine with as many as your tank/bioload can hold. They do hide a lot and dont move much, mine hide in places where I can still see most of them so it doesnt bother me, but some people get bored easily.

I have a pond full and they come out almost every time I feed them, day or night, especially the striped, sometimes the spotteds, too!
