Lost both 3.5" Brokopondos, losing the second one this morning. They wouldn't touch anything I threw in for them, and I noticed what looked like broken blood vessels on the gill plates, and heavy breathing. There are 4 guyana ocellaris in there eating blood worms like crazy, and 4 orinos eating ghost shrimp stuffed with pellets. All are great. Water temp 86, PH 7.2, nitrites 00 ppm, nitrates 40 ppm, ammonia 0, GH 180 KH 80. No clue as to what happened or if its just a sick batch of brokopondos. Alittle pissed off that a $180 just went into my red belly tank after 5 days. I have another 2 coming on tuesday. Has anyone else had problems with the new 3.5" broko's?

I received three on Wednesday and all of them are pounding bloodworms, with one of them already eating 1mm NLS pellets.

These Bass were a little on the thin side, but other than that...no problems!

Sorry for your loss!

yeah, mine were pretty skinny too. They ate the first day, and the guyana's have been pounding bloodworms right infront of them, but these guys just stop. There breathing was heavy, regular breathing for the rest of my fish.

sounds like your guyanas might of been running them down. i found mine to be pretty damn tough to kill. he survived getting his whole tail beat off by a bonsai fh i mistakenly housed him with (he was literally left with a nub). now its back to full health eating nls and frzn krill and silversides.

no the guyanas are only about 2" the broko's were about 3.5"-4". I think they were just sick, who knows I'll find out with the next two coming on tuesday

Bummer on the loss

My bass has been doing great. Still pounding the food sticks but has just started showing ich spots tonight.
Began treating with Aquarisol copper salts solution and raiaing temp to 86.

Hope I don't lose mine to ich.

^^^^you gotta watch for ich w/ small cichla. Thats why you keep your tank at 86-87. But your doing the right thing treating it. Keep the temp at 86-87, make sure the water is well airated(airstone), and add salt..id do half dose. Good luck.

I wouldn't of tied Rapp's name to this thread since this thread has nothing to do with him. Rapps does a lot for the community here and threads like this may possibly give people the wrong impression. It is most likely an era on your half since your last brokopondos had HITH at such a small size and your orinos colors are fading out.. Check your water quality again and bump your temperature up. You always seem to have problems with juvenile cichla and I think that this is the leading factor to why.
