I BUT I personally question the intentions of anyone selling anything for a ridiculously marked up price. He sold it to make money point blank no questions about it. If he truly cared or wanted to keep the fish in the hobby he would have searched the globe for someone with a female. QUOTE]

Sorry...but this is just wrong. If he would have sold it for a quarter of that he would have had people griping about how he was showing favortism...or some other drivel. Search the globe for a female? Like everyone else. LoL

+1 ^ Point well made. He made that quite apparent when he stated on his website that it was the number 1 most requested species. Dollar to be made as for as I am concerned. If it was as important as everyone says, he would have been better off selling it to someone with a female for less money.

I am not trying to say he is a bad guy I love his fish and for a long time he was the only person to buy good fish from. BUT I personally question the intentions of anyone selling anything for a ridiculously marked up price. He sold it to make money point blank no questions about it. If he truly cared or wanted to keep the fish in the hobby he would have searched the globe for someone with a female. Its not like he is buying a new house with what he sold it for I mean it was only $500 not really that much. But I personally wouldnt have sold it for that much. I also dont like that cichlids that are endangered and even extinct from madagascar are so expensive that they will never be mainstream and risk being lost forever. I also dont like paying $3.00 a gallon for gas but hey this is the world we live in money makes the world go round. I am rambling but I dont want anyone to think I think Jeff Rapps is a bad guy.

Oh so he should just give the fish away???? He wouldn't be in business long if he did that. I think his price was more than fair considering the fish.

How could anyone say anything bad about Jeff Rapps? Are you :screwy:?

I could say mistakes I've had with him.. But it's negliable with the amount of business he does, amount of fish he moves, and what his stock availablilty does for anyone who likes cichlids. And the fact that he's a good guy.

Anyone who has a problem with a $500.00 fish of any kind should be questioning their overpriced LFS prices.. It is a business after all and if I could easily make $100.00 or $5.00 which profit do I want to make as a business owner? Show the demand and eventually this fish will make it back into the hobby in larger numbers.

i have read that this spesies kills anything else with a heartbeat. does anyone know if this is true?
I am not familiar with this species - however there are many species out there which are at least that vicious - like the Parachromis dovii - mine will kill ANYTHING that I put in there.

They almost killed a fairly big common pleco .... poor thing had its fins shredded before I realized what was happening ... he was going to town on the green algae and they were going to town on him!

I imagine that's because your dovii is isolated? Many large CA cichlids will behave the same way once they've been physically (and thus psychologically) isolated. I wouldn't say that adds up to a homicidal species though. Raised together with other fish in a properly sized system almost any cichlid can be kept with other fish.

With most CA/SA cichlids that may be true
However; dovii are known to be in about the top 3 most vicious cichlids in the world.

The male and female get along fine with each other (sort of)

the male tried to attack me to the extent that he cleared the surface of the water to try biting me :D

They are still young ... the are only about 5 or 6 inches long right now ...

long way from being full grown - males can top out at about 28 inches and females at about 15 inches.

... but those are the why I got them! a real mean truly MONSTER fish!

... but I have to say the female is highly intelligent and aware of what is happening. She gets on the males case if he tries to get mean with me.

She tore up his tail by putting him in his place :WHOA:

Even my wife loves them! She calls them the Angels

Yes MO!!

Steindachs, Beani and Yellow Labs on my impossible list! BUT, I know a guy with some Yellow Labs!! :) :) :)
