Rapps Notatus Updates (post your pics please)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There's a lot of variety in my group of five. Two are dark, have thick bars, and thick black spots. Two are very small with light bodies, have a different body shape, and show red and blue marks on the gills... no black spots to be found. One is in a class by himself... he has a lighter colored body, but shows dark brown and black spots where his bars should be. These spots are not as large on the two dark-colored fish.

Sorry they're so blurry. I have an old camera, bad lighting, and very active fish. :(

Nice fish! I wonder why there is so much variation? One of mine has a different shape with the red spots and the other has the dark barring. I was curious if there was more variation in the Notatus out there since there was some in my own. They may all look the same after they mature. Time will tell.

Keep the updates coming.

Got 7 back in June and still have 4. The biggest is 4" now. It's interesting that they all look somewhat different from each other.

Thanks for the update pics. Those look great too. That last one seems to be the oddball of the group. They all mostly have similar characteristics though. The ones that arent heavily barred and spotted all look alike and then there are some with the bright orange anal fins that all look similar too.

How big is the one in the bottom pic peter? It is real interesting, the red on the gills dont look like spots but more "blotchy". Could you post a picture of one of the wild adults for reference?

It's almost 4" (eyeballing). Very vibrant colors....

Here's a young wild adult male at 5-6"

Man that wild male is awesome. I really hope that these current guys turn out even close. How soon should I start to see the worming on the face to determine sex?

On a different note: Your wild male Red Ceibal is about to make babies with a Rapps f1 female.

I think these guys go with spots too - males have spots all over and females have spots up to the mid-lateral line. Worming between eyes are different too.

Glad to know the male is getting some :D They are suppose to hang their fry, but mine hid them in pits all over the place...no hanging.
