Originally posted on a media lounge thread, I thought I should post here as well.
I wanted to make a post to let you all know that I am now aware of the slight ick that has been noticed on some orders of orinos received in shipments later this week.
I assure you that I would not pack fish with visible signs of any ick.
I've been in business for far too long and deal with far too many good people to think I can 'get one over' on a customer with something as simple as saying 'not my problem...'
Does my track record over the past 13-14 years say otherwise?
I'm sorry if anyone feels like their opinion doesn't count or that I don't take each and every order seriously.
Of course I do!
I spend a great deal of time communicating via phone and email with customers and potential customers.
You folks have no idea how many fish I've talked people out of buying from me due to compatibility issues, etc.
I most certainly do not have $ signs in my eyes.
I'm in for the long run.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. A vendor cannot count on making money from each and every order processed. It's a shame not every vendor can step back and view their business from that perspective, but please be assured that I have known this for a very long time.
I noticed that several of you commented on this individual's post that appears below.
I'd like comment to as well.

First of all, I was very sorry to hear about any losses.
What is missing from the post, however, is some additional info I received on an email stating that the fish were medicated-and then lost.
I hate to have to lay it out, but the Rid-Ick that I am told was added to the tank is downright deadly to many fish (most definately including Cichla of all sizes!).
The formaldehyde and malachite green combo that is in that medication, while effective in irradicating the ick, are also effective irradicators of little Cichla.
I know the manufacturers directions state that the product is safe with even scaleless fish, but that's not entirely accurate.
If you are going to medicate Cichla, NEVER use full strength of any meds or salts - and never use copper while I'm on the subject.
Best bet is to go with raised temps and 33% to 50% dose strength - or rapid losses such as that which occurred in this individual's tank are a likely result.
I will admit to over-medicating thousands of fish over the years. We tend to learn these things the hard way. I can only hope that I've learned from my mistakes.
So in spite of this individual's fish being lost so suddenly after the addition of the med, I still replied with an offer to help out towards a future order.
I am not oblivious to each and every customers' comments and needs.
I am not a fish bank with an endless supply of fish to offer as replacements. By the same token, as I stated earlier, I'm in this business for the long haul.
If I need to take a beating on one person's order and replace fish to maintain the highest level of customer relations as I possibly can, then that is what I will do and will continue to do.
