We should consider ourselves lucky we are not small enough (or it large enough) to be on its menu.

That is the one

we have a bad problem here with mississippi kites in spring. they are real protective of their nests and attack people that come to close. after the 4th hole at the golf course here on base is where i was attack once a couple of years ago, i wont play golf anymore during spring time.

I just recently released a big red tail that was picking of my buddy's pigeons. We came out of his house to hear some crazy noise coming from his pigeon coop. Went in there to find a huge hawk flying around with a ball of bloody feathers in his talons (expensive pigeon). I ended up catching him with a fishing net and put him in a garbage can (still holding on to his feathered meal!). So, I drove south about 100 miles and let him out in a nature presurve. A day later he was back and had to do the same thing over again exept 150 miles north this time.

the things I'd do for that stupid bird.

did he come back again????

Not yet and lets hope I don't see him again. They said next time they are going to shoot him. Not cool.

If you are getting a raptor, go with something small. I investigated this possibility for myself a long time ago, and most of the people who kept them feel the bigger raptors are not only somewhat unpredictable, but can do a lot more damage. They all recommended working with smaller raptors for a few years before trying the big boys.

Personally, having grown up with birds my whole life, I think any long lived birds make lousy pets, they are never truly domesticated and live so long, I would never buy another parrot as much as I love them...
