Rare 1960's MetalFrame Slate Bottom Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My small one is probably a two gallon and I might set it up as a terrarium for some carnivorous plants.

Dont they are worth a t9n. They are built solid and tended to last. I got offered 2 for free and said no. I prefer my rimless tank with almost no trim and low iron glass

Low iron glass?....what sizes were they?

I don't think he meant the Metaframe were low iron.

Yeah,I see that now.

It's good to know who's got my back.

I have a 26 gallon metaframe and was told by the owner of a nearby fish store the best way to make em usable is to put down a piece of glass on the bottom and silicone it, you can even go up the sides to be safe.

He did offer me 45 USD for it, I said no because I currently house my water snake in it

Saw this tank on craigslist near me for $75, listed as a 45 gallon tank. Such a cool tank, kinda wish I had a need for it.

I would definitely buy that tank...

I got a ton of MetaFrame tanks and to the right people they are worth a good deal.. A friend of mine has one room of his "fish basement" (there's like 4 rooms) dedicated to antique tanks like these. It's spectacular to see. MetaFrame tanks were made in all sorts of cool sizes and shapes and very well constructed. I have sealed many with aquarium safe silicone with no problems at all. I am currently running over a dozen ranging in size from 22.5 gal (3'x1'x1') to a 75 gal don't know the dimensions off the top of my head hit it's a 4' tank. The largest I have seen is a 125 gal pretty standard dimensions I think.

There are at least two different styles of MetaFrame tanks. The older of which have a bottom frame that "flares" out towards the bottom of the tank. The "newer" are just straight
