Rare Fish Accidentally Ordered By Petsmart?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
OK so it wasn't Petsmart but that franchise is a bit limited north of the border. Anyway, I was in a Petland a few years ago and came across what I though was the coolest fish I ever saw. It was a weather loach. At the time I had no clue about this fish other than it was neat looking and I wanted it. Also discovered that it could be housed in a goldfish tank or, as it's housed now, in with my clown loaches. Currently that same loach plays with the clown loaches and is a very healthy 6.5 inches long. Though it may not be a rare fish I just thought it very interesting to have found it and have yet to find another pet store here that even carries them.

I'm in Canada and we have Petsmart, petland, just about every major pet retailer. aswell as a lot of cool locally owned businesses here in Calgary. I have never had any problem with Variety, in fact there is a lot more variety here than when I lived in Europe. Maybe its just Winterpeg. Also weatherloaches were my FIRST EVER fish as a kid, theyre not rare or fancy. They are usually sold as a coldwater fish to keep with goldfish. Theyre just not that commonly sold these days.

And to the OP, none of the fish you mentioned are rare.. I've seen all of those at pet smart before. they do often get in wrong fish though which is great if you can work out what you are getting and how much its worth. I do this all the time with petland too, the amount of Fire Eels that come in with the regular Peacocks is amazing.

I think it depends who is in charge of ordering, The local petland closest to me has an awesome manager and he purposely brings in what he thinks would be cool. They've had Wolffish, red tail hybrids, flag tails, champsochromis caeruleus, true parrot cichlid, a pom pom knifefish, rare pleco's and more! I love the place
