It's sad that the Japanese feel a need to kill everything they can get their hands on - The Giant Squid, Whaling, the Frilled Shark, the Goblin Shark, and I am pretty sure they kill each Whale Shark they TRY to put into their aquarium... Wish they were getting bad press for it.

LOL, yeah im sure its some kind of national "kill whatever you catch" policy.
It was caught by fisherman, not fishkeepers, also when it says "rare fish" im pretty sure its not referring to it being hardy.
Just thought that was a pretty ignorant statement towards a country as a whole because a "rare" shark died being caught by a few japanese fishermen.
Pretty sure if it were you or I who had netted it the outcome would be the same.

Sry Danzig i CATCH AND RELEASE everything and anything i catch... Its just stupid to "learn" from the fish by autopsy... why not go to the ocean floor in one of those pressurized submarines and look at the fish in its natural habitat and learn from that... no lets put it in a formaldahyde jar and study the corpse... i dont know why we humans need to learn from it at all... just another excuse to kill it in my eyes... Im sick of all the cool animals on earth becoming endangered and then extinct... my.02$

 if it was caught alive, it should have been released alive. not put on display for the public to gawk at and be all stressed out. it is a rare fish and should have never been taken out of the ocean. even if it was dieing(which you cant tell for shure) it wasnt dead yet and one rare fish removed from the wild can potentially hurt the overall population of these awesome fish. it has nothing to due with race or fishing but how screwed up humanity is as a whole.

Well " Its just stupid to "learn" from the fish by autopsy" is just about the dumbest statement ive heard yet. Its called Biology. Without it you wouldnt know half of what you do about fish or any other living thing for that matter.
I was saying to stereotype a whole country because of a few is ignorant.

Yea i kno alot more about goblins sharks now... they dont fare in captivity thats about it... and killing endangered species to put it in a formaldahyde jar is the wackest biology ever... i think you could learn 100 X more watchin the fish in its NAtural habitat... what it eats... how it mates... wher eit swims... i cant figure that out from a goddamn biology autopsy...stop talkin out ur anus(tell your children not ot walk my way) the song

I understand your opinion but from a scientific perspective it's hard to support. Audubon killed just about every bird he painted. Natural museums are the Mecca’s of formaldehyde jars. This is how natural science operates. Would it be better to follow these animals for the entirety of their lives detailing every aspect of their existence? Sure. But it's neither financially nor practically feasible. In addition there are things we can only learn through dissection. Having a fresh specimen is incredibly helpful in understanding the biology of these animals. We're talking about one animal taken in the name of science. It wasn't pregnant, it hadn't been featured in a children’s movie, and it was likely to die.
