I think a better question is what is rare and desirable to keep. There are many, many fish that don't come into the hobby because they make poor captives and/or are especially difficult to collect.

From what I've read, they have developed pressurized hyperbaric chambers specifically designed to "capture" deep sea fish and bring them alive up to the surface. Although, thats only the beginning of the of the insane challenge to actually keep them alive in a tank.
There was a time when it was practically impossible to maintain a marine aquarium, but advancements in technology not only made it possible, but affordable to the average person. I wonder if the same will hold true for deep sea fish.

. My all top high wish list RARER THAN RARE fish...Crenicichla tigrina. I don't think there are any currently in captivity, and if there are, the person who has them isn't talkin about it. Every pike-aholics dream fish...but practically impossible to get.
