get a dog problem solved

Guys did this in Hawaii too. They stole like 30 or something ridiculous and because the guy brings em in from Japan people thought it was a scam too then all of a sudden the koi turned up on the beach. Dumbasses thought they could let them go in the ocean or something after they figured out they couldn't sell them. Guy lost thousands of dollars.

My grandparents lost 50-ish koi to raccoons last summer and I would not be surprised if a lot of these are raccoons and other predators. An owl went through our neighborhood a few years back and got all of the koi and large goldfish it could. We looked at our security cameras after all of our 9" long previously-feeder goldfish were found around the yard, half eaten. I was shocked that the owl got them though!

Now, we have motion activated lights around our whole backyard and neighbor's backyard. When one goes off, all the others do too. A few years ago someone cut our neighbor's power and robbed their house blind, this caused both of us to take serious action. If anyone or anything gets into either of our yards then everyone within a quarter mile knows because of the 14 lights in each yard.

Needless to say, we no longer have a raccoon problem :)

Why the hell are people stealing fish.

There is a very good chance they will not be able to sell them locally, so why risk moving a 30lb. Koi out of town, county or state. Who would want such a fish? Part of the enjoyment of Koi is raising them from fingerlings into monsters. Makes no sense to me.

The only thing I could think of is they were taken for food. IDK. I'm speechless.

You are assuming that everyone who has a backyard pond is as moral as you are. Think Madoff would have a problem having someone steal a few koi from you?
