I have started too fed my bichirs with rat pups now. The biggest ornate is 8-9" and the next ornate in size is about 8". I thought they should ripe the pups apart but no, we swallow them whole. The ropefish manage to tear the legs of one pup when the 8" ornate tried to swallow.
If the smaller ones take a pups it's riping and tearing and guts floating around.
The channas is to my disappointment, not interested. Maybe they are to small yet, 3 and 5".

sounds kinda inhumane, but w/e floats your boat.

:iagree:

that has to mess up your water..i got a friend who would feed his RBP's pinky mice..the whole tank would stink like hell ooooowweeeeee...

i would think twice about that 8" ornate with a 3 inch channa dude...

not the best thing for your water plus a little fatty feed them only as a treat they need other things in there diet but a pinky now and then won't hurt just make sure to do water changes

I guess my question would be....why on earth would you feed rat pups to your bichirs in the first place? Unless you have a large supply of cheap rat pups available then it certainly isn't cost-effective, especially when there are so many other food types available. I don't see the logic in doing it.

I hope you are doing this for a reason other than entertainment

even if it is for entertainment (which i admit i love watching my fish eat other fish....kinda sick pleasure i suppose) i'd go with feeder fish over pinkys.
