Here is my first real attempt at a mildly planted tank, i am going to get a better lighting system, ditch the ribbon plants, get more amazon swords and get an oscar. It's still cycling, the whole setup so far cost me 500$. Filters are aquaclears 110s, 500gph each, 1000gph total, turns the tank over 18.18 times an hour. the tank is 57g including the filters. ATM i have 0.6 wpg, going to upgrade hopefully by the end of the week.

Here you go:

Thanks for looking

The thing is, they will destroy any small, thin leaf plants. i am going to get the oscar as a baby and get only amazon swords, nice thick leaved plants with huge roots.

But now it's a toss up between a mini monster tank ( nandus nandus, sajica cichlid, african knifefish and blue acara )

What the oscar will do is move gravel, resulting in floating plants

By the time he is a full grown adult, the swords will be very tightly rooted and i am going to put heavy rocks around the base of each plant.

Your not planning to move the oscar to a larger tank when full grown?:( Sword plants will never "tightly root" in aquarium gravel.
