What's the final tank size all these monsters are going into, I hope the tank your currently useing is just a growout...

Have you considered finding another large species like E. canina instead of getting another green? You said once you were considering a viper?

I would love to get my hands on a one. Especially the full size one. There are a few problems hovering over this one though

Species Identification - I don't really trust anyone has proper knowledge to identify the true Larger Canina. I might end up with a small Chestnut or something. So I would have to purchase one that is at least 4ft or larger. At this point in time I don't have the correct facilities to provide for the eel the way I would like to.

Tank Mates - I would specifically dedicate this eel it's own tank most likely. Known for actually attacking divers and being aggressive I don't see it working out. Splitting up large 4ft moray fight is one of the harder things I have done. It almost always ends up in a death.

Availability - I have offered large sums of money for this eel to many collectors. They all say they can get it blah blah. I usually then get a call back stating the divers will not catch that specific moray.

If I had a guaranteed way of obtaining one I would be all over it.

They only grow to the size of the tank.

Myth... there is no reason any fish should not reach its full aquarium size if properly cared and housed for. If you think they grow to the size of the tank, read the sticky about it. Stunting growth of fish to make them stay in a tank that is too small is very unhealthy for the fish and cruel on your part.

I can say first hand, a tesselata will not live for life in a 100gal.

There is a link in my signature below. I've probably had the largest moray this board has seen, I know how big they get.

Dude I'm sure he is joking. His very first post states this is a grow out.

;)

I've been looking for the Caribbean equivalent (E. nigricans) and can't find one anywhere...couple guys in the keys told me they aren't even encountered often, let alone collected. thankfully I doubt it would have the high pricetag of a true viper.
Funny you mention availability, that seems the issue with every eel I'm interested in, even those not considered rare by MFK standards.

Enchelycore ramose - I would shoot for one of those. Decently common in AUS just have to get it shipped.

Canuk back into the big eel game. I am still to this day jealous of big green and that tank. Was an awesome setup.

Yeah I sometimes wish I still had the tank and Mr. Green. Knowing he went to that huge aquarium made it a no brainer.

Can't wait to get another green.
