If i wanted a hole in my driftwood i would personally get a drill and have a go at it... since at least in Hong Kong, trying to find a nice branchy piece of wood is damn near impossible... but wood which is in a solid block almost like that is a dime a dozen...
Eitherway though, if it serves its purpose, and your happy with it, then don't let my criticizing make you feel any different... as we all have our own opinions and ways we like to do things
