Went to calculate pond matrix vs sera siporax to see which was better:

Sera siporax:
1 liter sera siporax provides as much settling area for bacteria as approximately 34 liters of ceramic filter material. Therefore 1 liter sera siporax ensures more than 200 liters of biologically clean aquarium water.

Pond matrix:
Use 1–2 Liters of Pond Matrix™ for each 100 US gallons.

Both bio media does not ever need to be replaced. Either way, you can not go wrong these choices...

I'll have to see what is available in my area, but I'll definitely get the Siporax or Matrix. Why not get a combination of both?! lol

I'm hoping the plant chamber will help reduce the amount of dissolved organics in my water in between 50% weekly water changes. Plants have too much benefits.

Thanks for the recommendation guys!

Is there a specific reason your running the water level so low where your pump is? I have a setup almost exact to this except I'm going to be filling half my center compartment with nylon scrubbies. I decided to go with a higher water level in the pump compartment due to evaporation. The less water you have in there the more it's going to have to be topped off so your pump doesn't run dry.
