Looking good. My only suggestion would be a black background.

Hey F1, i see you've finally decided to take up the plunge into the planted tank world :)

Just one thing i wanted to point out though, is your Co2 diffuser placed below one of your tanks pumps by any chance? the reason i ask is i'm just wondering if your Co2 is getting circulated around the tank enough or not? since i can't tell just by looking at the photos...

But i have to say the tank itself looks like its filling in nicely, so should look even better after a few weeks with the new Co2 system you got on there...

Oh and just so you know, i also just stick my anubias plants directly into the substrate in all my tanks as well, so your not alone there ;)

Yea its just cardboard ATM to block the sunlight from the window. Thanks

I attatched the anubias to some dw finally, ill have updated pics this weekend.

Thanks bro! Yea the diffuser is wood cuz these ceramics are extremely finicky IMO. I guess ill have to put down the $$ for a nice one. But yea I love the new and interesting world of planted's! Unfortunately I started with dracenas and lucky bamboo but research I then changed something's.

But to answer your question the wood diffuser sits on the bottom directly under my "upside down" 750gph circulator which sucks up most the bubbles and blasts them out all over.

Right now I have it regulator, bubble counter, solenoid, needle valve. Clicks on/off with the lights and bubbler comes on at night. Sound right? Or any way to make it more efficient? Like should co2 tank be fully opened etc?

It looks good vet.

Thats great to hear, seems you got all the hardware you need to setup a high-tech tank :)

Now regarding the Co2, a lot of the OG guys you talk to will say turn off your Co2 when lights go off, and back on when your lights are on...

On the other hand, a lot of the new school guys and even some of the OG pro's i've spoken with in Hong Kong have said its better to leave it running 24/7 regardless if the lights are on or off...

Some of these older guys have switched to leaving their Co2 on 24/7 because of the PH swings they saw in there tanks during that time period...

Others have actually said they noticed much better growth on their plants after leaving their Co2 running 24/7...

So i think wether you keep your Co2 on 24/7 or only when lights are on is personal preference, although on my tanks, i've opted to let it run 24/7... The only thing i would say is to make sure to Co2 doesnt get so high that it deprives your fish of oxygen which can be a balancing act to start with while you fine tune everything...

Also, i dont seem to have noticed on your list of equipment a drop checker to monitor Co2 levels?

If you dont have one, i highly recommend one for people who are just starting out like me, since it will help prevent you from over dosing the Co2...

Also, if you get a drop checker, make sure the water you add into is distilled water with a KH of 4 to get accurate test results... To get the KH up, i think you need to add a few grams of bicarbonate soda? Although you'll need to double check that last fact to be sure, since i just keep a pre-mixed bottle of distilled water with a KH 4 level handy now :)

In the second pic I see you have bamboo under water. I would suggest that you remove it immediately. They are high in sodium cyanide, which it what those guys in spy movies have in their suicide pills. That means if your fish even nibble on it, or if it dies it will leake the cyanide into the water. They are good emerging plants, but under water they will die and poison stuff.

Yea I got a cheapo co2 drop checker but I'm very confused on how to set it up (god I feel like a newb lol) it says "add 1CC of the solution," how do I measure a single cc and it says nothing about adding water? Very confused so if any of you know plz help! http://www.aquariumplants.com/mobile/default.aspx#P8696 its the ISTA

As for running the gas 24/7 to stabilize PH I like this cuz my prized juvy Denticulatus Piranha is sensitive to ph swings and my huge ass tank would run for atleast 6-8months.

Would I still run an air stone at night? so I guess its a gamble between Low o2 or ph fluctuations.....

Thanks for your help Homer !

Yea i took them out awhile ago and put them into my 125 shoal tank, funny thing is they have nibbled it but I see no ill effects luckily! Thanks for the heads up it just looks cool and with and adult shoal its one of the few plants I can keep rooted.

I put a melon sword in there as well and its lasted and growing huge with hardly any light.

But the tank looks great! I can't wait to see it when the plants are really established!

Made a custom diffuser after trying different Diffusers. I must say this was a 110% success.

CAM01229_zpsaf6f1e23.jpg

Materials:
Marineland Duetto internal filter
Coralife wood diffuser
Airline
Filter padding or floss
co2 supply

Start by cutting out the plastic divider right after the intake to make room for the diffuser and drilling a small hole to fit the airline from the bottom:

Pull the airline thru the hole, attach to diffuser and push all the way down:

Put the foam it can with in the last chamber and fill it up with padding/floss:

Make sure the filter is adjusted to Max flow, place in tank upside down so the intake is at 2 o'clock (that way gravity forces the bubbles up to the intake, filter is off to show in the 1st pic):

If you look close in that last pic you can already see the tiny co2 bubbles going straight into the filter chamber thus being broken down even more, by the time the co2 leaves the filter the bubbles are nearly naked to the eye and all over the tank, if you look closely below you will see tiny white lines which are the micro bubbles moving quickly:

Here's the complete setup:

Thanks for looking, everything I made this with was laying around the house. Been doing research on Diffusers/reactors and it seems the best route are reactors and a popular way was using a gravel vac coupled with a powerhead but I figure my method has another layer of diffusion being that it not only goes thru the layers of foam and padding but it also is further broken down by the impeller which shoots it out all over the entire tank!

Also there are a number of internal tank filters you could use for this!
