Your water level is too high. You want as many scrubbies/ bioballs out of water as possible, with all the ceramic under water. All mechanical filtration should be done before bio, so either the sponge is in the wrong place or useless, or both. Also, the last baffle by the pump is not needed.

good idea i like it except the bio balls need to be outt he water

so ill lower water level .. ill get all scrubbies out of water.. drop the last baffle... an i guess nomore sponge?
Is there anything you would add to make this a better filter besides this ?

agreed ill fix that raise them up prob extend that part of tank

silly as it may sound but I like sumps about 50/50 bio-media in and out of the water.. heaven forbid a pump go on you the submerged media maintains some amount of BB even if your other media drys out. also offering optimal BB "houseing" but just my view on it. Maybe abit of over-kill... If you have the room/space why the heck not? Also gives you some more room to add heaters ect. or worst case a holding tank for a fish that got beat up other otherwise needs to be seperated but maybe not QTd.

That's true, but ceramic is the best media for submerged use. If he was to leave the first chamber where it was, it would work better to switch out the bottom half with ceramic. Not that the bio balls wouldn't work, but ceramic ring would work better.

Looks pretty good. You do have room for some more submerged media, and I would throw a filter pad on top of the drip plate with egg crate under it. That would give you a little extra mechanical filtration, and quiet the splashing noise at the same time.

thanks for the info i agree... also.. how about some plants right next to the pump? on the left?

Keep in mind, idk what kind of flow or size of this sump, but standard filter sock like 7" diameter is 16" long and you will need a super tall tank to run off the sock and over bioballs. Just too tall IMO you tank will be high, you stand will be top-heavy, you will need an extra tall sump. Id just do away with the wet dry part

I wouldn't do that...The filter pad can/will cause the water to be unevenly distributed on your drip plate and make a good bit of your media useless.
