Depending on it's size, I'd give it a 7+. It's head could be a little bigger but it does have a nice profile. It still looks like it has some growing to do though. It looks thick and healthy but not overly round. The worming on it's face is pretty average and the orange trim on his tail looks nice and thick. All in all, I think he is a pretty nice fish.

The body looks short at the base of the tail. Maybe camera angle? Nice genetics as far as colors. Nice tail flame. Nice spangles along entire body length. And great coloring in the dorsal and anal fins. There are a lot of minor details that make the GT fish such an amazing fish. If you can get fry from this pair, and raise out a giant with the same colors you will definitely have nice show fish.

I would be getting at least a 3" fish, any smaller than that would be massacred in my tank. Are they able to be sexed at this size? I would like a big showy male if possible. :)

I give them a 5 because they are average looking, nothing special about them jumps out.

Males should start coloring up at 3" from a pair like this one. I would pick out six to a dozen depending on cost. Grow them out and pick your favorite of the group. For males, just pick out the most colorful ones, or the ones the look most like the dad. =)

I like how everyone always rates all GT's between a 5 and an 8. I've never seen one posted where everyone agrees it's a 9 or 10 and a "show stopper." In my experience, pretty much all GT's turn out about the same. There's not many that look bad if given proper care, and when allowed to grow to their full size (it takes a while since they are slow growers).

This one has a good body form (it looks like he's at a weird angle and turning from the photo, so I'm taking that into account). He doesn't look full grown, and he already looks very nice.
And he has a TON of color in his caudal fin.

I say pick up some fry if they are available. They'll probably turn out pretty good.

I don't have room to grab 6 to 12 of these. I have a 180g with a synspillum, argentea, 2x regani, bifa/hybrid, GT, 3x 5"+ clown loaches, and an extremely nasty salvini which will be getting returned soon. The breeder of these GT is asking $15 per 3-4" GT.
