jeffers;4794897; said:its not just lazyness i have tile as my tank is on a very high stand and has a canopy so cleaning the sand is next to impossible. going with tile i get a good look and a very clean tank so now its not an issue. not only that but it is now safer as im not shoulder deep in water with the rays swimming around. they might be calm but it only takes one freak out and a sting can happen.
also alot of people go barebottom so they can always see the underside of the ray and make sure everything is ok. this is good to do in a hospital tank.
rays will bury themselves alot in the beginning but after a while they wont bury unless something has them really spooked or your params are off. i had mine in sand for a long time and they stoped burying completely so its not a big deal to me if they can bury or not anymore.
if you want to keep an animal in a close to environment as possible then you should be making that big tank you talked about as 6 foot is just the opposite.
Just my opinion kida, also from other bare bottom folk have said, its easyer to keep clean.
And you say ` its not a big deal to ME if they can bury or not anymore` not a big deal to YOU....
If they are active rays you will see there under sides when they clime the tank walls.

I have noticed that rays tend to be more active with bare bottom tanks.
Maybe its because they are on the move as they cant settle some where for a chill/hide, who knows.
