I am aware rays regularly shed their barbs, and this occasionally brings with it some of the poisonous skin that coats the barb. Is it possible to take this and create an antivenom for ray stings? Or is it too miniscule of an amount to have any significant benefit? I personally am not planning on acquiring ray antivenom for any reason, but am curious.

I’m sure anti-venom would be made if any sting would cause immediate death. Frequent contact with the fish. Don’t think it can kill a human unless directly allergic and get anaphylactic shock. Opportunistic infection or arterial bleeds likely cause of death. Think that’s why but any ray keeper can chime in.

It would be a lot of wasted resources and time in all honesty. The sting is very painful but not fatal. The biggest issues with a ray sting is secondary infection and the wound not healing or hitting something vital.

In conclusion, the majority of issues stemming from getting stung isn't the venom, making antivenom rather obsolete

After a ray sheds its barb, does the shedded barb contain its venom still?
