I have a couple 8-9" motoros in my 220g with pool filter sand substrate. The substrate is about 3/4-1" thick and I've noticed that they tend to circle the open space in the tank, creating a "track" around the outside edge. This behavior seems to cause the sand to pile up in the center of the tank. I just found this a bit curious and I was wondering if anyone else had observed this behavior from their rays.

my buddy had one clear a side of the tank of sand kinda moved it to one side.... doesnt sound to out of the ordinary to me... post a vid of them...

Yes, same here. If you watch them long enough you will notice they swim, find an "edge" and follow it. The fact that they utilize their pelvic fins for propulsion accounts for the sand piling towards the center.
No big deal, just push it back out to the edges again and again and again. They will continue the same.

I wasn't really worried about the behavior. It didn't really throw any red flags IMO, I just found it interesting and wondered if anybody else had observed this.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Interesting...

Mine climb the front (and sometimes the sides) of the tank; most of the sand gets pushed away and accumulates in the middle.
