Ray doesnt wanna eat...(sorry kinda long)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
He still wont eat..he'll go over the food but acts like he doesnt even know its there..wont pick at it or anything..I think hes lookin a lil skinny now ..im not happy, i think this might end badly..

I'd get on the earthworms and black worms. Find something he'll eat stat. I didn't like the "nothing is wrong with your ray" reply the first time I read this thread and 4 days is too long to ignore.

That would be a shame. Do you have another tank to put him in by himself to rule out tank mate issues?

@pete..I keep trying the night crawlers but he just doesnt care about them or shrimp..havent tried blackworms..not sure where to get those but ill try to find some

@kevin..unfortunately i only have 1 tank big enough for the ray and the other 2 smaller tanks are full or i would move the SDs..not sure what to do at this point..i just wish i knew if the thing w/ the archer had anything to do w/ this because this didnt start til that happened

Is he showing any other signs of stress such as breathing heavey, swimming irradically, red blotches or swolleness.

How often do you clean out your filters? You should only do one at a time as to not disrupt your nitrifying bacterial colony too much. I would get a new test kit as it should show one of the colors on the color chart unless it is outdated or the test is not being performed properly (which I'm sure is not the case).

plecocaves site says no shipping til further notice..i called around here and no one has live blackworms so i called aquarium adventures and theyre the only ones that carry them so ill probly be heading down to cbus this weekend..are blackworms something you need to be careful with? as in do they carry diseases and stuff?

As for how hes acting/looking i see no outer signs of anything and no heavy breathing or anything though hes trying to bury himself which he usually doesnt do. I did a 40-50% WC yesterday and he actually seems to be swimming around a bit more but nowhere near how he usually is. I also tried cutting up shrimp and earthworms really small and he wont take any of it.
Sometimes i clean both filters but i actually thought about that this time and only cleaned one and it was barely dirty. Im trying a dif test kit so we'll see what it says and if i still cant read it ill get a new one tomorrow.
Im gonna put up a few pics and see what you guys think..one shows where hes been laying kinda half buried in the middle of the tank which is an unusual place for him..ones a belly shot and one is to see if you think his hip bones seem like theyre sticking out..

When I said Earthworms I meant like red wrigglers. They're smaller than crawlers.

The hips would show on the back to either side of the tail but he has a good thick tail so probably has reserves to go quite a while without eating - but that wouldn't stop me wanting to see the ray get back to eating ASAP.

I don't see anything too alarming just looking at him. I sent you a pm.
