Ray experts... I Need some HELP!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
when i said rinse the media in aged water , i meant just the filter floss. I apologize if i didnt make that clear enough.

Cleaning the filter is very importannt with rays as i have had past experience where the water is kept pristine but the rays died because of high nitrates caused by dirty filters. We even have one member in here that lost a lot of rays because of the very same issue.

Without test kits, its really hard to determine what was the cause of the problem. Now that you have given us parameters, it is clear that the tank is "cycling" by the presence of nitrites.

How do you get rid of nitrites? Cleaning the filters and water changes?

 Well even after all the water changes, today he came home to a ray laying on its back. My bro inlaw tells me the ray is still breathing but it looks to have what looks like to be burns in it belly and around its mouth it is very red.

The other 4 may pull through. They ate a little yesterday.

He is testing the water every morning an evening. He told me the tests in the morning is not bad, but the one in the afternoon is a little high. He did a 20% change thismorning and a 50% this afternoon.

What would be a good feeding regimen to keep the paramiters down, and still feed them enough to stay alive and not starve

I would first like to thank everyone that took time to help me and my bro and gave us your knowledge about rays.

In spite of all the testing and waterchanges we lost our first ray today:cry:

I guess there is nothing else but to do daily waterchanges and hope for the best.:(

Here are the test results he emailed me this morning. Still kind of high on the nitrite, the both of us are not sure on the ammonia test.
Can anyone help us determine what the reading is?

sorry to hear. I agree with David.. just do more water changes for now. And net out the little bits of uneaten shrimp. Those can put a strain on your filtration.
